Jaguar F-Pace SVR, the coolest SUV on the road?

The F-Pace SVR is an exciting car. Loads of cargo space, plenty of room for passengers, comfort + technology, paired with incredible performance. This is your next family car, and here's why:

To me, this is one of the most good looking SUVs on the road today, Jaguar absolutely nailed the design. It's not over-styled, and has the perfect amount of functional vents.

In case you are unfamiliar with the F-Pace, you've probably seen it's much less performance oriented and more understated variant on the roads. I worked at JLR when it first hit the dealers and instantly liked the design and interior.

Lets' talk performance. Providing the mind boggling 542 ponies is a 5.0 supercharged V8 which makes one of the most glorious sounds with lots of DRAMA on the upshifts. It's a beautiful thing. It has 516 lb-ft of torque paired to an 8-speed auto. That's some serious power, all for a not too heavy package of 4800 lbs! In terms of its competition this is relatively lightweight. Thus making it quicker with less need for more power. If you know me at all you'll know I am not a huge fan of 0-60 times, (I know I know what a grandpa). However, I should mention that this will hit 60MPH in 3.7 seconds flat. Watch out Porsche.....Macan..... GTS.... did I just start a war?

The drive modes are surprisingly useful. In Dynamic, 90% of the power is sent to the rear wheels, which is proper sports mode driving. In comfort it's 30 to the front and 70 to the rear. In low-traction mode it's a 50/50 torque split rear and back for a perfect AWD experience should you need it. Steering is good, real good. Plenty of feedback, sharp and precise. I enjoy the handling a lot on this car, especially the way it makes it feel like its a 1,000 lbs lighter! It provides the driver with a lot of confidence and you can feel the stability of the wide tires.

The revised aero, vents and detail oriented thinking has lead to some major improvements. Air vents on the hood help push hot air out of the engine bay and reduce air pressure thus reducing lift. There are side vents in front and just behind the front wheels to cool the brakes and reduce turbulent air. You'll notice the rear side extrusions, these are there to keep the air flow as clean as possible as it slides off and away from the car. In addition there is a subtle spoiler on top. All of this reduces the lift by 35%. That's significant.

You might be wondering that with all that power and focus on performance the ride must be rough and is probably harsh to drive on the streets. You would be wrong. The engineers focused as much on comfort and ride quality as much as they did on performance. They tweaked the suspension bushings as much as possible to get good handling and chassis balance while maintaining ride comfort. This improves lateral stiffness and shaves off impact harshness. It's noticeable.

Inside you are greeted with one of the most beautiful and fresh interiors I have seen in a long time. These incredibly sporty seats are well bolstered and offer quite a bit of adjustment to ensure you are nice and comfortable. They are on the thinner side yet are extremely comfortable, win win. The Meridian sound system is incredible for those of you who like to listen to tunes while destroying the German car off the line who is reving its engine next to you at the red light........

Let's talk practicality, this is after all a family SUV. Cargo space is very good. The F-Pace gives you a generous 34 cubic feet of room behind the rear seats which is quite a bit more than you'll find in the Porsche Macan which only has 18 cubic feet. The rear seats fold down to add even more room. Both rows of seats offer plenty of room for adults. I can sit very comfortably behind my driving position (I'm 6.0"). The infotainment screen is actually easy to use and clever. I love the digital gauge cluster, it's not too busy and allows you to customize your preferred set up.

If you haven't considered one of these you are missing out. The F-Pace SVR is well engineered, fast, comfortable, capable and extremely good looking. I do feel a bit of emotion (okay a lot) when I stomp on the gas pedal and feel myself sinking back into the seat as the supercharged V8 punches the car into a time warp, alongside the enormous sounding, trombone sized quad exhaust , there are truly few things that make me happier. This is a vehicle that flies under the sales charts, it's not made to please the masses and although the average joe won't even know what it is as they see it cruise down the highway, it is a rarity, and that makes it special.

And yes, it comes in white, black and grey too.
